I am looking into swapping an lt1 into my 91 chevy truck. I am prolly gonna buy a lt1 in the next month. Should i buy a camaro lt1 or corvette? which one is easier to put in i guess..also i have a 5-speed manual in it now, whill it hold up behind a lt1? and what will i all need to change on the truck when installing it? thanks...
Buy the Corvette model if you just have to get an LT1. I wish I could talk you out of it and into and GenIII engine. Yes, the 5 speed will work behind the LT1. I ran my factory V6 for 120,000 miles(rebuilt twice) when I ran the LT1 Corvette engine in my truck. You are going to have to modify everything to do an LT1 conversion just like you would have to do a GenIII conversion. Fuel pump, motor mounts if you have a V6, wiring harness, exhaust system(unless you already have a V8, reuse the stock manifolds or headers), fuel lines, electric radiator fan, fan shroud,....

i have a 350 tbi in there now..i was thinking i would prolly have to put a new fuel pump in it to...will one out of a vortec work? And i will prolly go ahead and put headers on it right away not only for power but also for sound...right now i have true dual with some cheap dynamax headers. would u happen to have any pictures of you swap...and about the wiring, i know painless makes one. how much is it and how hard to install? thanks
I don't think I have any pictures of it at all. It's in my friend's truck now, 1990 model swb, and still runs great. He's got Hooker competition headers on it. I rigged up the factory harness to work on mine, it was a 1992 ecsb truck and my engine was a 1993 Corvette engine. I don't have any experience with the the painless harnesses so I can't tell you if they're hard to install or not. From what I've heard they're pretty easy to do. I've seen the guy on Two Guys Garage do an LT1 harness install and it didn't look too bad. You'll want to get as new of a model engine as you can, 1996 was the last Corvette LT1 if I remember correctly. 1997 they went to the LS1 in the Corvette. The Vette block is a 4 bolt main instead of 2 bolts so they're a little more stout if you're doing any performance mods to it.
