Thread: My turn (wiring)

My existing '92 engine harness is cut about 16" from the fuse block (theft) and cut about the same length where it goes into the firewall for the old computer.

The LS1 has a complete harness. The only missing sensor is for the intake air temp (I think).

    Wiring is not my strength.
I would like to splice (by way of plugs) the remaining '92 harness wires into the LS1's harness. I have contacted a few company's about doing this for me but no takers.

    Questions:
    1) Do I need the old computer or can I toss it and replace its funtions with the LS1 computer.
    2) What wires from the fuse block do I need to splice into the LS1 harness.

As soon as it thaws out a bit here (PNW) I will head to the library (closed) to get some schematics.

Non wiring question for "redheartbeat" what size wheel spacers are needed to run corvette wheels? I have a lead on a couple sets of OEM '02 Z06 wheels/tires from a previous customer of mine.

I was hand in hand with "hd98" for a while and was runnig into some of the same problems he encountered. So I was just watching his posts, but now have fallen way behind him. I believe.

    Thanks, Jon

I have 2" spacers but 1-3/4" should work, also. Just be sure you grind under the lower a-arms if you have dropped spindles like I do. Bolt them babies on and clearance the lower a-arm as necessary. If you get some built be sure they put in 14mm studs. MotorsportTechnologies.com did mine, awesome work and insurance to cover their product.

In the conversion section there are wiring schematics for the harness or you can go on LS1tech.com for one. Buying a new harness ready to go is the simplest way to do it since you only have to hook up 5-7 wires to get the engine going.

You can toss the old PCM since you don't have anything left from the old setup, done that twice so far, no cruise interface yet but everything else works fine.

Most of the wires you'll use come through the passenger side. The large pink wire from the ignition switch can power all the pink leads. A lead can be dropped down from the junction block to power the red wires in the PCM. Black or black/white stripe are most always grounds. You'll need the green and dark blue leads to switch electric fans. The white LS1 harness wire is a tach signal if you have a tach, if v6 you'll need a divider from someone like BakerElectronix.com. The speedometer signal will need to be spliced into the white box behind the globe box. I think the wire in the box is a light blue one. I'd have to look again, it's been a while.

Thanks for the wheel spacer info. I will contact "MotorsportTechnologies". The Z06 uses a staggered wheel setup, I am thinking that the rear may be a bit too wide. Although I am able to pick up the wheel/tire and test fit them, prior to purchase. So, that is a bonus.

The truck will end up with a 4/6 drop. The rear is done. I wanted to get all that done while the box was off, during the installation of the new fuel pump. Plus needed all that done prior to taking the new driveshaft dimension, it was stolen as well.

I will start tracing and marking wires you have mentioned tonight. Wish I could find someone local. I would throw it on the trailer and drop it off. BUT, what fun is that. At least I will know exactly what is what.
I really would like to splice the two together. But for simplicity (as you said) I will probably go with a new stand alone harness.

Thanks, and I'm sure this isn't the end of my questions. Yep, just the start.

    Jon

I have nothing but the rear wheels on mine, the 18s only on all 4 corners.

Have done nothing on the truck. Bad CV joints in my sons "87 GTI so did that over the weekend. Broke my Torque Wrench (gears stripped in the ratchet head). Time for a new one anyway, hadn't been calculated in many years. Seams it's always something, other than the task at hand.
