Hey everybody, been a while since i been on the site. (been parts huntin) Finally tracked down a worthy motor and trans, etc. I think i can do the physical motor swap myself, but all the electronics and computer crap is gonna kill me....I keep lookin at all the wiring etc (not my strong suit) and i think im gonna have to pay someone to do this swap for me....any ideas of a shop near houston that will do somethin like this??? or how much its gonna cost me?



and on another unrelated note, im buildin a kind of street/strip car with a buddy and i was wonderin if anybody knew how many horses the stock 5 speed out of a truck like mine can handle? (for now we'll probably be under 400)

Maybe Nickens racing or MTI could do it for you since you have all that money burning a whole in your pocket.

FWIW, last time I asked, Street and Performance charges 50 shop hours to do a conversion, plus parts.

any idea what they charge per hour??? i dont wanna pay somebody i just dont think i can do it myself.....
also, any idea on that transmission question?

$45 / hr last time I asked.

The transmission will hold if it is the cast iron input version. Mine had the aluminum front housing and died three times in it's short life while towing my old SeaRay boat. I had a 93 corvette LT1 in front of the 5 speed for 5 years and had to have it rebuilt once. I still have the trans but it's pretty rough internally.

Generally the V8s got the cast iron input housing. Mine was V6 on my 92.

If you're in the Houston area you might want to try GForce in Friendswood also. All that RHB mentioned are reputable.
