Internally broken cat? Broken flywheel? Bad torque convertor? I'd start with removing the fan belt and start it up to listen for noise. Next, pull the starter and unbolt the convertor and push it backwards out of the way, re-install the starter and check for noise. Disconnect the exhaust before the cats and see if the noise goes away, that is if you can still hear it over the drone of the wide open pipes. Last thing to check is the flywheel but that means pulling the engine or trans. If it's not any of the above..... OUCH!

Oh yeah, might pull the valve covers and check for a bent push rod but I doubt that would make the noise you're describing.

I'm thinking something loose on your exhaust, i.e. broken exhaust hanger. Check your belt tensioner and pulley too.

Well since i put on the new exhaust system the other day the problem has disappeared, so it must have been the exhaust. Thanks for the help
