Well I am new here. And I don't have an LS1 in my Suburban nor am I going to put one in (too much damn work, and money). But I am puting in a T56 6 speed. I came here hoping to find some people who have possibly put a T56 into a 96-99 Suburban, Tahoe, or full size pickup. So far I haven't found any, but the search option on this forum is kinda lame. So if anyone has what i am looking for let me know. I am mainly looking for some pictures of the shifter inside the truck. I have seen some pics of a 94 with a six speed, and I think it will work the same. Well anyway, talk to you all later.

Hahaha I would think it would be easier to put in a LS1 in your burb than a T56 but just my opinion. Welcome!!

Welcome to the site, maybe we can change your mind about the LS1, it seems you can get some good deals on LS1's with T56's out there. But either way its a great site to get info on, even if the search button doesn't work. No one minds a repeat question.

First off, thanks for the greetings. The reason I am just going with the T56 is I already have one sitting here ready to go, and it is only going to cost me about 400 bucks in parts to put it in. And I am not really looking to go fast with the Suburban, that is what my LT1 3rd gen is for. My main reasons for putting in the T56 are as follows. My 4l60E is taking a crap, there for I can shell out over $1500 to rebuild it, or $400 to put in the T56. Second I prefere a manual for towing, the auto searches for gears too much, and with a manual once you get moving your not burrning up a tourqe converter or clutch packs. Third, from what I have found (or lack there of) no one has done it in a 96-99 suburban. Please correct me if I am wrong about no one doing it. I have spent more than 100 hours of sitting here searching the net for for someone who has done it. The closest I have come is here, and still no one that I can find has done it, and if they have, they haven't posted anything about it. The whole install will be easy, the T56 will bolt right up to the stock motor, and I already have someone to fab a crossmember for me. I am going to get the clutch pedal from a pickup with a manual. And I have a little item that one of my enginerring freinds designed for his 1996 T56 Impala. It tricks the PCM into thinking the AUTO is still there. So you don't have to do any custom PCM work. In the end I think I will be happy with it, and if not, then I will do a LS1/LT1. Thanks guys, and if you have any input or info for me that might help just let me know.

You could just pick up a used 4L60E for like $250-400 from a junkyard/swapmeet.

But a T56 would be a cool swap ... along with an LT4! Anyway...you'd have to get your driveshaft lengthened or shortened too.
