    Will it fit? 5.3 Swap.

The title might be a little bit off for this post, because I know it will fit. But a better question would have been will this engine swap without any major modifications? I want to swap a crate engine in a tired 2002 Silverado that currently has a 5.3. This engine is a 5.3, but I believe it's listed as an engine for the 1999. Reason I ask, the engine according to my VIN number, they want around 4k with a $2,000.00+ core, not to mention I was wanting to keep my current engine. Anyone know what differs from the 2002's to the 1999's and if this would be possible or a hard swap? Here's the engine I'm looking at.

ha. still dont understand what your question is.... your replacing your motor with... the same motor.... why would there be an issue? unless your going from a regular to flex fuel(2006+ i think), it will be the same... a 5.3 is.. well.. a 5.3 so whats the question??

That's good to know. Kewljay, I was just wanting to confirm because my truck is an 02. There are about 8 different engine assemblies for the 5.3 when you get ready to buy a crate, all with different numbers. This one is for a 1999 and for some odd reason this one is a bit cheaper then the one listed for 2002, and the core on this one is only $300.00 as oppose to the $2,000.00+ core for the engine 5.3 they call for an 02. Makes no sense to me, but that's how it is. It's good to know this one will fit. I've been throwing around the idea of getting an LKQ engine between 100-125k miles and putting a new water pump, timing set, and gaskets on it to replace my tired 300,000 mile engine. It would run me about $1,500.00 for the entire thing including the used engine, all new gaskets, new timing gears / chain, spark plugs / wires etc. Or I can go ahead and get this engine for an extra $1,300.00 shipped to my door. So it seems like this would be the best route for long term use.

Better yet, one more quick question. Will a 350 replace a 5.3 engine in these trucks and bolt up to a 4l60E? I know it might sound like a silly idea or a step backwards. But the reason I ask, I don't use the engine for any time of racing nor do I need top-end power. I actually pull a trailer all day with light - medium duty weight and the low end of the 350 would suit me. The 350's are about half the price of 5.3's for replacement also when need be. I've had plenty of 350's with several hundred thousand miles and zero issues. These 5.3's seem like stout engines until you run into the Casteck head issues, then that's enough to scare me away. We're the 6.0's effected with these heads also?

Lol. That's not a step backwards. That's a MAJOR LEAP... If you want torque, then get a 6.0. The swap Will be just as easy as a 5.3

Plus idk how smog works where your at but usually you can't go with an older motor. And on top of that, that would require so much work to put that thing in there. You need to get that idea out of your head asap....
