Should I buy used LQ4 w/fire damage for cheap? and how build?

guy on c/l has a fire damaged LQ4 from an 01 silverado w/145k miles, can buy for $250. I don't know yet how bad the damage is, but I was thinking of upgrading to L92 heads and intake anyway. Also, there is a guy on LS1tech that has LS2 rods/pistons/24X crankshaft--I've heard that might be a good way to get back compression to go w/L92 heads. Thoughts?

I want to stay w/the 24X Gen III; I've just upgraded to the 0411 PCM and will keep that on my 99 tahoe.

Get it. 250 for a good 6.0 core seems like a pretty good price.

If the long block is undamaged that's a hell of a deal.

Still may be a good deal for a block, but I talked to him today and its really fried; waterpump aluminum was melted, the rubber in the harmonic balancer was gone.

If it got that hot, the block may be warped/cracked. I guess you can do a preliminary check by rotating the crank. That is if the pistons didn't melt too.

Oh in that case I'd probably stay away from it. I was thinking just a light engine fire or something.
