I am buying a pre made harness for My 5.3 swap and I want to keep my abs so I know I have to keep my obs ecu. Is there a write up on thinning the obs harness of what I don't need? All I can find when searching is to remove what you don't need. That doesn't help much...

no. I'm pretty sure you have the 411 pcm which came with the 96+ vortec motors. I think they are mounted where you say which is where they mounted them for the lS motors motors as well. my 95 has the pcm behind the glove box.
You dont have to keep the OBS ECU for the ABS. It is independent from the PCM.

You don't have a 411 PCM in your 98. 96-98 had the black box computer on drivers side fenderwell. You can get a stand alone harness and run both your old and new computer or you can repin your harness into the 411 computer and do away with the black box. Just have to add 10 wires for coils, another for knock sensors, and cut your one big injector plug and wire 8 seperate injectors in.
