    94 silverado 4.3 to 5.3 swap

Im new to this site and pretty new to fullsize trucks. This is my first swap and I'm really new to these motors. I've done quite a bit of reading on the swap already. I bought the truck in October 2011 and have slowly transformed it. Paid $800 for the truck running and driving. The exterior is almost ready for paint so I decided to do a motor swap for better realiablity and power. I bought a totaled out 02 silverado running and driving for the transplant for $700. The idea was to part it out and snag the motor/tranny. Plans are headers, intake manifold, tb, cam, custom harness, custom tune, stall, and more than likely gears. I already have dirty dingo motor mounts and v8 motor mounts. I want the schoenfeld lt headers, Nelson harness/tune, dirty dingo a r4 a/c mount. I'd like to run the FAST 102 intake manifold and tb but idk if its worth the price versus a 90mm combo or even 92mm combo. As far as cams I'm clueless and yes I've read, but it's over my head lol. I do know I don't want to skimp on cam size. I know I need to get a stall to match. I will post pics here a little later. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Hey welcome. There is lots of great info here, and lots of BSing also. There is a shootout in February at the San Antonio raceway. http://www.ls1truck.com/forums/gathe...25th-10am.html

As far as wiring, I'm guessing I need to leave my 94 computer and harness in the truck to run the gauges or can I remove it? I want a really clean install.

You will not need the old ecm for anything. Unless you want to sell it with the tbi to someone that is running carb.

Would I be safe in remove old wires from 94 harness that are no longer needed? Like trans, motor and leaving a/c, fuel pump, oil sensor, coolant sensor, alternator.

The only wires I kept were coolant, a/c, fuel pump, oil and wire from alt to battery,, everything else was on my Nelson harness, I did use the wire from the stock coil for my 12v while cranking for my new harness

Awesome! That's exactly what i was thinking. Why did u keep wires for coil? I also need to keep abs wiring I'm guessing as well. I would really like to mount the new ECM behind the glovebox and use the stock grommet for going through firewall.

The wire from the coil was the easiest way for my source for 12v while cranking and running,, look at my thread for a simple ecm mount under hood,,

Started pulling 5.3 today. I left the factory harness plugged to motor but disconnected at the ECM and fuse block. Just to clarify, what will I need from this truck besides motor/tranny and ECM?
