    04 Z71, swapping in a new 5.3

So my 04's 5.3 decided to finally give out. I know it was some sort of oiling issue but I didn't have time to mess with it while I was deployed and it was driven quite a bit.

I got a sweet deal on a complete 03 5.3 crate motor that was still new from a dealership and I'm swapping it in this weekend. I know most are saying what a dumbass for not getting a 6.0 but for the price I couldn't pass it up and this truck is a DD.

Is there anything that may come up during the swap I should know about beforehand so there are no suprises, I have 1 day to get this thing swapped out and want to be prepared.

    Thanks

Extra exhaust manifold bolts, they tend to break frequently.

What year 6.0L? 99-2000 it won't fit to the 5.3 convertor and flexplate. Make sure it has a black crank sensor above the starter to validate its not Gen4. If the dipstick tube is stuck in the block you can pull the oil pan off and punch the tube up from the bottom.

It's a 5.3 for 5.3 swap I guess this question has popped up way too many time in the last 20,000 posts. It's official red is a robot.

Oh, I read it that you got a 6.0 instead of a 5.3. Duh. LOL That will teach me to text while my other half is talking to me of porn.

Normally those conversations aren't a good thing in my household either. I tend to pretend she isn't talkingas well.

Came up with a few questions I thought of while taking pics of the engine bay last night. I'm a decent shadetree mechanic but I've never pulled an LS engine before. The engine I bought has everything, intake, headers, CP's, etc, its complete. So nothing needs to be swapped over.

    1. It appears that I can get away with not having to take the A/C lines off, is this true?
    2. I will pull the radiator just to make sure I have enough room, probably a good idea right?
    3. It's a Z-71, is there anything that may get into the way from the underside that I should know about? I'm leaving the tranny in place.

Just unbolt the compressor and let it lay out of the way, same with the power steering pump. Yes take the radiator out, will give you some more space for sure. Never pulled one out of that era but I know the NNBS ones are a LOT easier to pull out without the intake manifold on the engine.
