how much to trim off oil pan

I am starting my swap in the next few weeks into my 94 model 2wd silverado, does anyone know how much to take off the oil pan so that it will not be sitting below the crossmember? I am going take my pan off and take it to a shop that will shorten it for me, also should I ask them to section it farther forward to make up for the amount of space lost by shortening it??

I was under the impression that it could be trimmed, I took a quick look at a trucking mag the other day while in wal mart, they had modified the stock pan

yeah, an fbody setup works great if you're worried about dragging the pan. Get the pan, windage tray and pickup tube. I've run truck pans on OBS trucks with 4/6 and 2/4 drops and never have even scratched one on the ground. You can get the pan kit at www.crateenginedepot.com IIRC. Make sure you call them to confirm you're getting the fbody style setup rather than the truck. www.hotrodlane.cc sells a cut pan kit for severe clearance issues but their crap is pricey!

I was wanting to be better safe than sorry on the pan. I stopped by a local dealer, I can get everything I need for around $265, pan, pick up etc
