    Transmission un-decisiveness! Which to get?

Well I have started to do this conversion on my 84 scottsdale c20. I am just hungup with one thing.. The trans!

I wanted to use this truck to daily drive, and haul my gto on occasions to the track and so forth. It currently has a th350 trans, but its seen better days.

I am in the midst of the conversion to lm7 (5.3), so i still have some other decisions to be made.

I managed to get a good harness with this motor that is uncut, however still i am contemplating doing a painless harness that just goes right in if they have one.. If thats the case, im sure going with a 700r4 would mean i could stay away from wiring on the transmission side of things, and just get a m6 ecu and harness setup for a mechanical transmission. I have been told by a few to look into 4l60's, however im unsure the extent of wiring i will be getting myself into with that kind of decision.

Also another item that comes into play is the driveshaft and mounts. With the different choices, is there any particular direction i can go where there is already a swap driveshaft/ mounts made? I purchased the sliding dingo mounts already per someones suggestion, which was a great help.

Ive researched on here and am still doing so, i just figured i would take a stab at asking in the occasion of saving some time. Im trying to get this thing on the road before too long, so any assistance helps.

I need to get into figuring how to supply fuel now, so back to the drawing board.

    Thanks for any response!

Piss on a 700R4 or a 60e. You look like you know how to do things right. Go with an 80e, especially if its towing.

    +1

If you gonna get messed up with adapting...you might do the free jump to the 80e.....same amount of work...3 times more satisfaction!

Go 4l60e at minimum, 4l80e if you can. You say you have an uncut harness already, if its an auto harness, there is no additional wiring just plug it in and go.

1 extra vss sensor. That's it. The 80e is going to hold 2-3x the power the 60e will and if you're towing, the 80e can take the abuse all day.

sweet, 4l80e it is! Any year better to get than another? Prefereably something i dont need to modify the driveshaft with . I def DO NOT need to use this UBER expensive built 4l65e for this thing. Besides my circle d converter is a bit extreme for this setup anyways.

As for the converter, do i just use a stock 4l80e converter? ? Will the flex plate that came on the 5.3 work?

Thanks for all the help. I am sorry for the qusestions, there is just so much variety in things its a bit confusing. I cant say ive ever been an automatic dude either. Im used to t56's...

Well i found a trans out of a 02 express 2500 2wd van. Its a 4l80e with 90k miles on it for 600 bucks. Does not come with a torque converter. Is there a spot you guys know of that i could get a converter from that is good and will not cause me any issues? I guess i need to get a oem 6.0 flexplate also or is the 5.3 one the same?

    Thanks for all the help.

600 is good for an 80e, get a converter from yank or circle d, i dont remember what i used on mine, but you can get the 5.3 flexplate with the spacer

You guys are crazy with all this 80e talk. LOL

Call a converter builder and tell them you want a converter built for an 80e to mate up to a Gen3 engine, 5.3, 4.8 flexplate. Be sure you order the stall level you want in the future, now. I wouldn't buy a custom converter with less than 3000 stall, myself.
