Or can it even be done at all, since the pump needs to be changed? thanks

Not sure if this is two questions or if you're asking if one has to be done without the other.
But, to convert, find a donor truck and swap over the parts on the firewall and the power steering pump, that's it!
No vette accessories required if you're asking that.

So, I think you are saying...that you have vette accessories and you want to add hydroboost.
Just T the return line from the steering rack and put the return line from the hydroboost into it. There is no need to change the pump.
Yes, I currently have the Vette accessories, which includes the Vette power-steering pump. Just tee the low-pressure HydroBoost return line into the low-pressure steering rack(cylinder) line. Cool. I take it the Vette P.S. pump can supply enough pressure and volume, for both the brakes AND the steering then?
You can either do it with a T in the line or add a boss on the reservoir for it to return the fluid to. The vette pump puts our the same pressure and volume as GMs other pumps and it is plenty for both.
I have used a vette pump on a LT1 for hydroboost with no problems.
