moving ls1 engine across 60mm, need help with clearance questions?
hi all, have a bagged and bodydropped obs truck in the build at the moment and am sticking a lsx454 engine in the old girl to get her moving! now to my questions.
As the truck is now right hand drive (convertered for australian compliance) the exhaust headders are going to be very tight due to the steering column shaft. From factory the engines sit closer to the rhs (i would say for steering shaft clearance on lhd models. Now my plan is to move the engine towards the lhs about 60mm (2 1/4" roughly) as that will be perfect then and solve my clearance issues there!. Now my only issues i now have are.
1) will moving the engine this much cause me clearance issues with the sump hitting the engine crossmember?
2) i plan to put a 4l80e behind the engine, do you guys think i am going to run into issues with the trans hitting the floor/tunnel? i also i realise i will need my diff built to suit how much i move the engine across also but thats the easy part!
would appreciate any advice! As i have no sump on my ls1 mock up engine or a 4l80e trans at the moment it obviously makes it hard to know what effects it will have without being to see in before i move the engine! Also what would be the best sump to use for my truck, need something that is going to be suitable for a truck that is going to be (driven hard/thrown around so to speak) cost is not a issue when it comes to getting the best possible sump also, so if i could get a link to a good sump that would be great also thanks ryan!
