The difference between winning and losing, is having a 2nd stage.
You can, not sure why you would want to unless you're going forced induction.

i have a 5.3 short block with 20,000 miles on it and i have a set of 6.0 heads i was going for a low budget build, i am going plane the head to 58 cc and port and polish i like them for the bigger valves
Not gonna have much surface left after that much milling...

1983 Ford Ranger- 2.3 to 205k mile 6.0 swap
Unless ur going forced induction you will lose compression and hp, and if u mill down that far ur intake wont mate up, ur head to intake deck hieght will b all wrong.
i did'nt think of that i could mill to the same cc of the 5.3l heads i mostly want the 6.0 heads for the bigger valves

You could get a set of ls6 heads. They are the same as the 317 heads your have but they come with a smaller cc chamber. It is 64cc compared to the 71cc of the 317 heads you have. The casting number for ls6 heads is 243 or 799. You wouldn't have to mill as much and still have some room to mill more if the heads become warped. They also have the same size valves as the 317 heads.
