And whats the difference between the LQ9 6.0 and the other 6.0? Is there a difference in the heads too?

Unless you are going with some serious boost, I doubt you want the iron heads. You can get 317s super cheap all day long. The LQ9 has 317s too. I wouldn't use them on a 5.3 though, compression too low. What are your goals with your engine?

Also you should have 799s or 243s if you have a NNBS. Those are hard heads to beat on a 5.3.

Well I'd llike to have 550+ rwhp because i have such a damn heavy truck. I know I need to upgrade to a 4l80e but in the time being I wanna figure out how I can get to 550+ from my 5.3 or If i should just buy a package lq9/4l80e from a junker.

Yeah it is a nnbs but I don't have the slightest clue what heads I have. I just read on some other forums that the 5.3 heads aren't very good. are you saying the nnbs heads are better than the
317's? How can I find out what heads I have? Is there a stamp?

Also I thought there was a difference in the lq9 and 317's. I remember it being the valves but IDK.

Well, if it is a NNBS 5.3, it has the 799s or 243s. Those are different heads than used on the NBS 5.3. They outflow the NBS heads but lose compression slightly, which isn't a bad thing in your case since you're boosted. The 317s are rarely used on a 5.3. They drop compression too much. They do flow well though when they've been worked a little.
