Im still working on gettin enough money for a new engine but i was debating on the ls1 or 6.0L. i can get a used Ls1 for around 2 grand but i didnt know how much a 6.0L would cost and how much hp is produced with them. I know the Ls1 is around 325 but how much is the stock 6.0L? just a few questions that were running through my mind so i figured id just ask some smarter people that know. thanks for yalls help.

The highest output 6.0L motor will just match the HP of an LS1. You get more displacement but with the cost of 65-75 more lbs of weight to have to lug around. The 6.0L can be bored over a little bit but the cost of good machine work is about the same price as buying a new LS1 bare block when needed. 400 hp is simple to get from a LS1 with bolt-ons. Can you tell I am a little biased?

haha yea i get what you mean. Well if i go and find a used motor which would be the better buy. and im not talking about performance wise... im talking about $$$. I saw the 6.0L with a STS and a few other mods on the pics/videos forum and it ran a 10.91 . that shit was fast as hell and woop the hell out of the lightning and other cars. If i get the 6.0L everything still has to be changed right? im talking about tranny and that kinda stuff. But if i get the Ls1 i gotta get the new computer, wiring harness ad everything else. also headers i got would have to be made to fit right because they would be set for a ls1. Dunno... the 6.0L just sounded a little easier to complete than the ls1 would. : /

It all depends on what you have now. Guys have switched out 4.8L long blocks with the 5.7s and been really surprised. The engines are basically/dimensionally the same. Intakes to oil pans interchange. You can pull all your accessories and bolt them on the LS1, except one bolt hole on the a/c mount is what I hear. The headers will be the same from any of the LSx heads. The LS6 and H.O. 6.0L engine both have D shaped exhaust ports and the rest are round. They all use the same headers since the bolt patterns are the same.

What are you running in your truck? Year model?
