    suspension: 2/4 dropkit install

I'm going to install a 2/4 belltech drop kit pretty soon and was onwdering if anybody can give me the rundown on it. i know for one thing i have to drop the fuel tank, other than that i haven't done much suspension work in my day, so i'll take all the help i can get.

by the way this kit uses 2'' drop coil springs in the front and not spindles i know there is a big difference between the two ways to drop

You need to go rent a coil spring compressor and a ball joint seperator if you dont have those already. BFH, and large wrenches. If you have never done it before plan on 2 days worth of work and take ur time. You will also need new shocks that are shorter for the drop. Beltech makes those. Any more questions throw them out there.

It's not too bad either, I had never done anything to that effect before, but just took my time and read the instructions. Be careful with the ball joint fork/separator so you dont tear the grease boots.

just hit the arms or the spindle with a BFH (big f*cking hammer) and you don't need a fork

i bought brand new Moog ball joints both upper and lower plus all new bushings. I'm going to replace all of that when i install the springs. So i don't really have to worry about the dust boots since they are gonna get junked anyway. I've never used the coil spring compressor though. Looks fairly straightforward and simple enough.
the main thing i'm wondering about is the rear hangers, i already had 2'' shackles in place so i won't be replacing those again, on top of that i got 2 rear Nitro-Drop shocks with the kit, all i need is the front shocks which i found for about 70 dollars for the pair. so i'll go that route. unfortunately i bought an incomplete kit which means no bolts, at all. luckily i work at a machine shop that carries about 500 different bolt sizes, so i think i can build a bolt kit fairly easy.

Yes, like ducky said the fork will kill ball joint boots. I don't even use them anymore. I just hit the spindle with a 8lb sledge and its free. When you're removing the spindle loosen the ball joint nuts but don't remove them. That will keep the spindle from falling off when you start beating on it. When reinstalling the spindles it may be helpful to have a buddy with a breaker bar to put pressure on the upper control arm to get the nut tight on the upper ball joint. I've never used a coil compressor so let us know how it goes!
