stock bottom end 5.3 safe max shift rpm's

What are you cammed stock bottom end guys using for your shift RPM ? I know it depends on alot , But on average. I have 4 cars but this is my first truck and I'm kind of scared shifting my truck at 6500 as I do my GTO. My biggest worry is long hills when I travel or tow I don't want it sitting at 6000+ for 30 seconds. I am doing a comp cam 212/218 114 and was going to have the shift points at 6000 how do you feel about that ? The truck is lifted with 33's and 3.73 gears, headers, exhaust, cold air, 160 stat, comp 212/218 .530/.530 114 with nelson tune.

6500 is still in the safe zone as long as your springs are up to it.

    old mod list: H/C/I/N/E/G 408
new mod list: 5.3, gears/posi, mufler and tune : (

The bottom ends on the LSx-based engines are pretty stout. Shifting at 6000 or a little higher won't be a problem. However, as you approach 6500, you may want to consider upgrading your rod bolts. They are the weakest link.

with that kind of cam you want you wont have to worry about high shifting, youll probably shift around 6100

it ain't that I'm too big to listen to the rumors, It's just that I'm too damn big to pay attention to 'em..That's the difference

Well my Yukon denali has a Lunati cam and when I have the snowmobile trailer on the back with 4 sleds. On the interstate with the cruise set at 70mph it will sit at 5700/5800 and not shift till I crest over the hill I am on and there are some long and steep hills when I travel thru the PA mountains. That engine actually spun a rods bearing with 42,000 on it ? I put the cam in at 13k ?

As for the durability I know what they will take alot of abuse. I have a turbo GTO with a stock 6.0 with a 90mm front mount that makes 770rwhp and my 2000 camaro that has a 418ls3 shown in my avatar 9.60's N/A 135mph . I just feel horsepower from RPM's is far harder than nitrous and blowers as they are compressive loads. Just wanted to know what others are spinning with daily drivers ? Just because a couple people can run there engine 7500 doesnt mean its the right thing ? I like to take a consensus and make my decisions....

I'm the same way I guess truck has a 100k powertrain warranty anyway ? I bought a 2500hd 6.0 in 2002 and truck pulled it in the stock class for 4 years with 200hp nitrous on it and it never missed a beat. I sold the truck with 212k on it and it had exactly 302 10lb bottles thru it ! I have a friend I put a solid roller in his 01 camaro with an l92 carbed topend he spins it 7800 thru the traps. Its still together but its starting to rattle a little.

I get paranoid sometimes cause my first engine in my Camaro was a 408 I will not say who built it as I think they are a sponsor and its most likely nothing to do with them, But it was $5800 for the short block I went for the Lunati crank and Rods and wiseco pistons blah... blah.... Long story short I had a rod break just above the journal ? with only 20 passes on it shifting at 7000 no nitrous.
