    2004 silverado - rear diff

So i changed the tranny on my 2004 silverado last week,

and the garage told me i had both u joints to be replaced, as well as there is sometimes a sound out of the rear diff. and the rear diff. has play.

So they opened the diff. today, and found out that the LSD in it was done.
to rebuild its 3000$ including both u joints.

I told him to check it before,he told me worst comes to worst there was max 600$ to spend on the rear diff., ok fine. but 3000$ , thats out of my budget for now since i spent 3k on the tranny lst week.

to finaly.... he found a used one with 65 000km on it coming out of a 2006 avalanche. apparently it fits, for a 1900$ cnd tax in he would swap diffs , brakes everything.

now. should i wait until the diff goes, do you guys think it will go soon....

i called afterwards and spoke to another guy who told me the diff was from a 04 with 114 000km. they need to get their crap straight. I will proceed if the diff comes from a 06 and has 65 000km on it...im concerned, i'm not expecting to pay he same price, he told me it was from a 06 with 65 000km on it..

I'd hit up a different shop for a 2nd opinion. No way should it run $3000.

Here in Houston you can get a new after market locker for $1000-$1200 installed. Do the U joints yourself for $60 they are easy to install. Definitely check with other shops on the rear.

Sorry my english is not really good so!! Now i just hope they put it back together properly so It doesnt fail on me in the next 12 hours. The truck was runing fine, the only klonck sound was coming from my both u joints that were done.... meanwhile I will check to get new diff. and wait until winter goes away and swap them myself.

    thanks for the help guys,
mean while if people can give me/give me links of use diffs for sale.
even maybe guide me on a book i should be ready before doing this swap...
