Smile 71 chevy/5.3 need advice on type of air filter system

Hello, I am trying to figure out which air filter system to use on my 71 chevy truck. I put the 5.3 in it. I could use a 99 & up air box and make up a 4 inch pipe to connect to the motor or go with a complete system. On a budget. I have plenty of room on the front passenger side. What about modifying the stock box for a ram air type system? I hope to get some advice as I have had not much interest in my past posts. Thanks, Alan

I put a silicone 90 degree elbow reducer from 4" to 3.5", aluminum pipe to where I want to locate the air cleaner (mine is behind the bumper), 90 degree aluminum elbow to a generic K&N air cleaner. You can use a generic aftermarket air cleaner like the ones on Ebay for next to nothing prices.

    Great advice

Thanks, Red, I will look more at your postings as you have good photos with great info. I have not yet learned how to post photos so i am limited what I can share with others. Do you think the stock 99 box sucks? Thanks, Alan

Too restrictive but will work fine for a near stock application. A cold air intake will add a little HP.

Also look at Cowl327's posts, he's done about 200 different air intakes.
