pretty sure the th400 will work. not the same length i dont believe....much cheaper to get a good 400 than 80 most of the time...

    for build info

The best advice I have ever heard:... Only take B( . Y . )ST advice from someone that is CURRENTLY running a turbo setup close to, or bigger than what you want......

IMO if you have a 80e, rebuild it.
I paid $850 for a built TH400 though. No core. 80e is way more expensive to buy outright so You also could rebuild it then sell it. For twice what I paid for the th400.

truck has a 60 in it now i thought of rebuilding the 80e and keeping it for backup for my 2500hd that seems to slip a little from take off. i know the th400 will bolt up just wondering if it will work with dbw

I dont see why not. I could be wrong though. It runs on vac. You would need to turn off all the trans stuff in HP tuners.

400 probably has better gearing in it. Awesome tranny for the 1/4

Everything I have ever seen has the TH400 and the 4l80e geared exactly the same except the 4l80e has a .75:1 overdrive. Of course I could be wrong so don't take it as fact.

FWIW the 4l60e has a .70:1 overdrive so your highway RPM will be a bit lower with the smaller transmission.

i know that the 60 has a lower overdrive but i dont plan on driving it on the highway so thats why im leaning towards a 400 i know that the 60 is built but i dont want to chance it with a cammed 6.0 pushing 40" tires

The THM400 and 4L80E have the same gear ratios 1-3 and they're better for performance than the 4L60 ratios. It will cost half as much for a THM400 swap than an 80 but you'll burn more gas so it depends on when you wanna pay the other half....up front for the 80 or over time in gas money.

Another thing to think about is if you get a th400, and later decide that youwant overdrive... You can pick up a used Gearvendors overdrive unit that turns your 3 speed to a 6 speed. $1000-$1800 used, $2500 new.
