    LS1 Ironblock?

I was researching a bit earlier on here but couldnt find the answer, and was wondering what all it would take to make my old 4.8 into a 5.7 ironblock. I know it would need to be bored and honed. I know someone who can do that for a decent price but, would I just need to find an LS1 Crank and pistons after that? ARP bolts and other strong parts will be included as well.

Basically if this works out my plans are either to:

    1. Put it into my new 83 K5 blazer project Ive been working on

    2. Put it into my 06 with the current 216/220 comp cam in the 5.3 and return the 5.3 to stock and put that in the blazer. Aftermarket heads will also be installed (Not sure yet). I want to spray it in the future too

If anyone has advice for me on this let me know!

5.3 and 5.7 share the same crank...

would be best to get a complete LS1 rotating assembly to put in it. The 5.7 balances different than the 5.3 so you'll have to get the entire assembly balanced to work correctly if you use a 5.3 crank in a 5.7L engine.

I would have to get the LS1 crank anyway cause the 4.8 crank is different than the 5.3 one I suppose...Im still debating about this project, but well see how it goes, it would be fun to build up and learn everything.

there was one for sale over on performancetrucks.net a while ago for around 1200. if I were going to do this I would get forged internals though. that way when you want to spray more you can.

If you are wanting to "BUILD" an LS1 go with forged pistons and rods, factory cranks are good to around 1000 hp. As stated by 408.Luke good set of heads and your good to go.

Good forged nitrous pistons can handle 400 shots if the right rings are used with them. Go big or go home.
