Fuel tanks

I've read about several swaps to the gen 3 engines, and people buying aftermarket gas tanks for up to $1200.00

Is it possible to just use the tank with the built in pump from the donor vehicle the engine and trans comes from?

Or are they shaped weird that they won't fit?

It would need to fit under my 1965 Chevy short fleet bed.

Also, I'm a little confused about the transmission controller, is there a seperate one for it, or is it built in to the one for the engine?

What all vehicles came with the LQ9 or Vortec Max, I don't want a AWD trans.

By the way, other than the Vortec max having 367hp, is it differnt than the 345 LQ9, or just have a more powerful tune?

I read where someone on here talked a salvage yard down on their price for the engine with cash money, that sounds like a good idea.

For a complete LQ9 or Vortec Max with say less than 50,000 miles and the transmission, ECM, harness, everything that is needed for a swap, how much $$ would it take to buy it?

2003-2004 LQ9's were AWD only I think, 2005-2006 came in a 2WD version. Not sure about the vortec max, but I'm pretty sure it comes in a 2WD version too.

The ECM controls the transmission and the engine.

I looked at the upfitter's guide for gas tank dimensions, I'll be doing a gas tank swap too and I think it'll work. The tank I found was in a new escalade ESV and tis 16" wide by 7.75" tall. Would just have to fab up some brakets.

I thought only the 07+ Max had 367 HP. I was under the impression the older body style was a 345 LQ9.

Not sure when they started the Vortec Max, is it still a LQ9, or is it the replacement for the LQ9.

367 hp in a 65 Chevy truck would be plenty for me.

I'll bet it's only got 200 right now!

Are you wanting to put the tank under the bed or in the cab? I used a Suburban tank under the bed on my '81 and installed a Walbro pump in it. If you get one from a FI truck it is an easy upgrade. You might be able to make the in-cab tank work as well but I haven't tried one.

Where is the fill tube for your truck now?

It is in the bed behind the passenger wheel well. It would be nice to relocate the fuel door. On a '65 with a wood floor you can get some hinges to lift one slat out and fill the tank.

yeah the v-max is the only one that has 367 HP. Not sure what the difference is, maybe they put the L92 heads on the 6.0?

LQ9 345 HP, LQ4 300 HP

Look at Brothers or Early Classic for an underbed tank. Stock style.

I went with a fuel cell where the spare would be.
