Thread: swapping to the 4.8 from the sbc, got a few questions

swapping to the 4.8 from the sbc, got a few questions

    1. I am installing an in tank pump from tanks, I understand the 02 4.8 is a return style system. I was told however to get a '99 and up Corvette filter/regulator that goes in line and simply returns any fuel to the tank via second hose. Is this right???

    2. Is there a set of rails that I need to do the corvette thing or can I simply cap the end with a threaded plug or such.

if you have a return style fuel rail, use it and run just a filter on the pressure side and return the waste fuel to the tank from the rail. I always have run a returnless system and had no issues. The current project truck has a return style and I'm using an inline filter on the pressure side.

Can I use braided stainless line with FI style clamps through the system or will this need to be a costly AN system.

I've seen guys use the push-lok system too but thats not cheap either. My personal trucks have used fuel injection rubber hose, clamps and cheap universal fittings. Not quite as nice as the AN setup but functional. I'm considering redoing mine after this new AN setup.

yea im opting to go with the AN connections. Just seems like they would hold up better.

I went with the push lock type setup. I recommend doing it this way it looks real nice and was really easy to do and the hoses from summit can be used with fuel injection. My 5.3 had the return style rails and I just ran a filter on the pressure side and then a return line from the rail back to the tank and it works great so if it has this setup i recommend sticking with it. Good luck on the swap keep us updated!

O.k. guys, picked up the engine on friday, looks O.K.. The recyclers killed my harness even though I asked for the harness.

It looks pretty good, I am going to get the Painless Perfect kit after all and I need some sort of acc brackets. They stole the big bracket.

Crused all the coil packs on the driver side and I found a small crack o nthe side of the head about an 1/8-inch think and a quarter-inch long where someone used an impact on the manifold. I amgoona let it ride and see how it ends up. I'll post a few pics shortly.

    I think I'd request a different engine.
