99-02 is DBC which will be compatible with your current setup.

03-0x will DBW which you will have to purchase the Tac module and pedal for DBW

05-0x you would have to make provisions for Efans since those motors will not have a mechanical fan

If it was me, I would reuse my old harness and throtle body (if going with 03 and newer) and it will be easy as cake

Lq9 has higher compression (flat top pistons) and only likes high octane fuel. The LQ9 can be found under the hoods of Vmax's and SSS's.

The LQ4 is an almost identical truck motor with lower compression (it has dished pistons). Its used in 2500's and will run on low octane. Imo, unless you are going to run a considerable cam the LQ4 is the best bet.

So you think going with an 03-04 lq4 is the way to go? its not a daily driver so i will be putting a healthy cam, LT's, etc in. I just dont want to get a motor that has is going to be a pain versus a year newer that will almost drop rite in. Thanks

With your harness, throttle body and computer it will be a direct replacement.

i have a 99 ecsb that had a 4.3 now have a 04 lq9 (excalade) dbc since you have a 4.8 dbc youre good to go, not much more needed except for a tune... all your accessaries will bolt up. even intake.

Well I guess i'm on the hunt for a 03-04 lq4 or lq9 then. Of course the three 6.0 engines that are local are 01-02. I can get one for $700, is it worth the hassle or do i wait it out for a 03-04. Thanks guys I really appreciate the help!

I'd get an 05+ LQ4 if you can. The 05 and up motors have the stronger LS2 style rods and timing chain. If not, any 01+ LQ4 would be fine as long as it wasn't abused.

None of this matters....he can reuse his original accessories, throttle body, intake manifold, etc and not have compatibility issues.

Thanks! One more question. I can't find an lq9 anywhere around here (NH), but i found 2 04 lq4's. One for $1250 with 61,000 and 1 for $1150 with a little more mileage. Does this sound about rite? If it does i'll pick it up tomorrow. then i'll be ready cam and tune suggestions. Thanks again!
