Well i was going to get dynatech (oscar) to graft my exisiting harness to my ls1 when i get it, but oscar does not have quite the reputation he used to. Now i can solder, and i can read diagrams and manuals (can get any diagram i need i have a friend at gm), and i can splice. is this basically all there is to it? splice wires and solder connections? or should i go with a painless wiring box? how much do they run? i would like to do it myself if its not mission impossible and i wouldnt mind saving the money either just wondering.

You got it, you really won't be graphting the harness , that is such an overrated term lol. Basically, you're ripping out your existing harness and putting in a newer/reworked one. You'll use some of the wires from the existing harness, but not a lot of them. Things like the purple wire from the ignition that turns the starter soleniod, the tan wire which is the oil sender, the temp wire, fuel pressure signal, etc.
Take your time and understand what every wire does and match them up with what they do on each harness, then connect them.
All the pink wires on the new harness are fused to battery, the pcm has a few ignition hot wires and some constant hot wires.

post up with some questions and we'll answer your questions,

    later,

Pretty good job involved in grafting, but most Gm engines have the same sensors and motors. What do you have right now.

It's really not as hard as it looks, and like Allen said, if you have any questions just post them and there is always someone around here that can help.

    Good Luck!

Shouldn't be too bad.Transmission may be a good bit of work, rest of it sounds like it should go right together. Just did the VATS on mine and had to get a by-pass.Don't think your truck has VATS does it.

You'll have to get a by-pass like I got. There's different kinds of VATS though.Your GM freind can tell you what kind you have. The sims just plug in.

if you really don't want to do it yourself, i reccomend jared at current performance wiring (www.currentperformance.com). i know he specializes in s10s but he can build others as well. hit him up and see what he can do for you. he made a fully custom harness from scratch for me for my swap and did an awesome job.
