    Toyota LS1 Swap

I came across this forum...looking for some info on a LS1 swap. I've read the stickies, and a lot of people around here I see are swapping the LS1's into older/newer GM trucks...and I see no threads on Toyota.

I'm getting tired of my 4 banger, and I loved both of my Trans Am's when I had them...so I'm about determined to get this motor in a 2000 Toyota Tacoma.

I figure I'm going to have to replace any thing that has to do with making the damn thing go...so basically I'm planning on swapping out the whole drivetrain, and even though the Yota rear-ends are tough as hell...my truck has a lot of miles on it, and I don't want to take no chances.

I've seen a lot of Tacoma's with older 350's dropped in, but I had no idea what kind of beefed up chassis/suspension they had, if they had any at all. So, my questions are...

    1. What kind of axles/rear end would be recommended for this truck?
    2. Since this truck was built a 1/4 ton truck, and with my high mileage I'd say this frame and chassis wouldn't like all those ponies and torque that it's going to give...so what would be your recommendation?

    Thanks........

Is the truck 4wd or 2wd low or high you want speed or rock crawling or drag racing?
Me I would have to have too much money and a Tech on my payroll that was doing nothing before I would even think about it.

It's 2 WD right now . I'll probably keep it that way too, since it would just be simpler.

Hmm, I don't understand your thinking...dropping any Chevy 350 into a Toyota is not that hard...in fact Chevrolet and Toyota are built very similiar. Right now, I've got some 63" Chevy rear springs I'm about to throw on there.

Also, you can even bolt a older 350 right up to the tranny in mine....in fact it's been done several times before. I just don't want any problems out of mine, and since I can get most of the parts for cheap, I'm just going to replace the whole drivetrain.

    -Motor
    -T-Case
    -Tranny
    -Driveshaft
-Axles? <--What in the hell am I going to do about this? I talked to my brother about it, and he said that my axles and rear end would hold up just fine, as long as I don't romp on it too much.... Which I know as soon as I hear the V8, that'll all be over.

So, axles and rear end? What are some good suggestions?

Find a custom fabbed ford 9" IF you are gonna do it do it right.
