I've been reading on here as a guest for the past couple of weeks and this seems like a really nice site! I've got a 97 SCSB Silverado w/ the 5.0 Vortec motor in it. I've got some goods done to the truck now, both performance and appearance. But, I will be doing a 5.3 or a 6.0 swap sometime this summer and after I found this site I knew that I could get some tips come project time!

Here is the only pic I have of the truck! It's about 3 years old... Before I really started doing anything to the truck to be honest with you!

Welcome! Welllll....the 305 Vortec, huh? That thing needs to go quick! Take it out this weekend!!!! I'll help! I'll even set up a fund for you to get an LS1 for that thing. As you can tell, I am not a fan of the old, tired 305. I absolutely love you truck--OBS, RCSB. I am eventually going to get a truck like yours. IMHO, the OBS has been the best looking truck GM has ever made. I had two OBS trucks--and I would have one now, but I couldn't get financing on anything over 7 years old back when I bought my NBS. Anyway, let us know we can help you put an LS1 in that thing!

Tell me about it! The truck doesn't run too bad right now. The last time I ran, the truck went 15.94. That was before the gibson headers, 3in flowmaster (no cat), auburn posi, and my BUILT transmission. I'm excited to do the motor swap. I'm thinking that I'd like to do the 6.0 but I found a REALLY good deal on a 5.3 w/ 52k miles that I get locally so I dunno! I'm thinking about doing the 5.3 for now and doing a 6.0 swap later on. I did find a 6.0 w/ 88k miles for $900 but I'd have to pay shipping from Maine.

I'm from the Rogers/Bentonville area in a smaller town called Centerton. Are you wondering where I race the quad at?

No, that pic of the truck looks like your at a dragstrip. But your in the opposite corner from me. I'm near the SW corner, and your in the NW corner. I was just looking for a close dragstrip. Welcome to the site though.

I'm thinking that the 6.0 will be nnnnnasty in that truck of yours. But $$$ does mean a lot when it comes down to which motor you choose. The 6.0 has a lot more torque then the 5.3, but you have a RC, so you don't need that much torque. Even with 4.10's, Tru-Trac, and Cal-Tracs, you'd have serious traction issues with the 6.0. IMO, I would go for the 5.3. It's cheaper, local, and with less miles.
