I want to drop a 6.0 or an 8.1 liter into it. I realize the 6.0 is more realistic but a part of me wants the big boy. From what I've been told a 6.0 is pretty much a clean swap, I was just wondering if anyone knew exactly how much more work/mods would be needed to drop the 8.1 in there? The impression I have now is I just need to swap the ECM's for the engine and tranny. Thanks guys.

Not the mention the fact that the 8.1 is a thirsty bitch!

Well I'm not concerned really about the gas mileage, it won't be a daily driver once that thing is in there. Are the motor mounts even the same? Anyone know exactly what kind of mods would be nessacary? What exactly would be the most difficult part? I would just do the 6.0, but the thought of a near 500 cubic inch big block with modern technology...

engine mounts are not the same.
the engine sits taller, so you might need some different sheetmetal.
your trans will not standup to the BBC. 4L80e is highly recommended.
to get ample radiator cooling, youll need a custom radiator as the
OE is too tall. your 1/2 ton frame rails are smaller and narrower so
some enforcment and cutting will probably be necessary.
i know three gents that started to do the same on NBS trucks and
lost interest and money as the fab work piled up...
