    Looking good!

I used a rotary scuff pad to clean the pistons in my LS1. I also use laquer thinner to clean parts. It cuts through grease pretty quick, and dries clean.

Just curious why you're going with the thumper cam? There are plenty more desireable cams out there.

For the accessories I poured 2 gallons of mineral spirits in a large plastic container and scrubbed them with steel wool and a wire brush. For the block and pistons I used a wire attachment on my drill and mineral spirits in a spray bottle.

Well there are a few reasons:
    1. It can be used with the stock stall and gears
    2. I already had LS6 springs which are perfect for the lift
    3. It has a good rpm range for my application
    4. It sounds freakin great
    5. It works great for carb applications
    6. It makes peak HP around 4500 rpm and tq at 6000. I dont want to go over 6000 rpm due to the stock rods and bolts

Got the Harmonic balancer off today, that thing was shot. Going to try to take off the oil pan tonight and maybe paint the block tomorrow.

What makes you think stock rods and bolts will fail at 6000rpm? I shift my truck at 6200 with a completely stock 260k mile bottom end. I know plenty of people pushing past 6000rpm with no issues.

I think it can do just fine but why risk it. The two most common reasons an engine fails is from high RPM and detonation. I want this bottom end to last at least a year so I can build an LS1 or 6.0 short block.

Most of the people i have heard to complain about the thumpr had it with EFI. I will have it dyno'd when its done and we will see how the cam is.
