In my 92 5.3 swap I cam out of the throttle body and went straight down to behind my 4x4 skid plate. Then drilled (2) 1.5" holes in the plate and put the filter right there. Works great especially since I have it all wrapped in thermal wrap.
The TRT truck is like that and that intake tube is LOUD. Whistles like crazy. I like it.

They're always a good thing to have, but that being said, You can order tubing from siliconeintakes and make your own fairly easily.
