    Question 4L80E Question

Ok, I posted this under powertrain also but thought I'd try my luck here as well.
    Will a 80E from a 00 3500HD diesel truck work on a 5.3?

Far as I know all 4l80es are the same so yes it will work. You need a matching flexplate and spacer. Also the wiring is different. If you already have your 5.3 trans harness then you can bug an adapter harness or repin your harness connector and add a VSS.

Thanks Will! I knew you could answer that one for me. I have the flexplate, spacer and longer bolts already. Just been looking for that 80E. Found one locally w/66k for $600! Picking it up on Monday.

    Awesome. Sounds like a deal.
BTW, if you decide to repin your harness you mind find this info useful.

Yep got that printed out already and in my binder of things that I've started. I would probably be further along in my swap if it wasn't for the heat. So hot out there I dont even wanna go out there and work on it. lol

I'm pretty sure at least some of the diesel 80e's had much lower stall speed converters. May want to look into swapping it for something that engages a little higher, if it is I'm not sure what your 5.3 will think about stalling at 1500 or so rpm. It would work, but it might also be a little lethargic.

oh shoot 2500ak is right. I wasnt thinking. The converter I have is great except they tell you that towing is strongly discouraged because of the ring used to mount it. I dont tow/haul more than a motorcycle or four wheeler so its fine with me.

Well I just took possesion of the 80E. The guy had me confused w/all the tranny's he had. It actually came from a '00 3500 w/a 5.7 gas engine w/67k miles. After tax and core it was $747.00 but if I take "any" transmission back I get a $150 core back. I know where my TH350 is going lol. As far as towing goes, the most towing my truck will see is my 14' jon boat.
So many more parts to buy but at least the most expensive stuff is now out of the way. Thanks again for the input guys.
