Thread: Is it gonna be enough?

    Is it gonna be enough?

I have a 12" Alpine Type X sub, Alpine MRD 1005 mono block amp, and a Tsunami 5 fared capacitor. I have had this setup for a while and plan on getting a big ported box built and putting in the back seat of my CC. I just don't know if it will get as loud as I want in that truck?

If your amp does push a RMS of 1000wts to each voice coil then I wouldnt change your amp. Just make a box ported to 32hz, install a line driver/Epicenter, and call it a day.

    The amp does a 1000 RMS @ 2ohm and 750 @ 4ohm.

should be loud enough but i would go with a sealed box because ported boxes only sound good with certain types of music but you definatly want to push that sub with the rms or maybe more with that max of 3000

A un tuned system doesnt sound good to certain types of music. A strong line driver and a good EQ will make a ported setup shine harder than a sealed (and sound better)...

False. Ported boxes sound good with all types of music if properly tuned. Never talk in terms of max wattage when dealing with car audio either.

#1) Caps are bandaids for big electrical problems. Ditch it.
#2) The Alpine X isn't meant to be super loud. It is intended as more of a SQ sub.
#3) A properly built box can get anything to sound good.
#4) I ONLY RUN PORTED BOXES.

I dont agree with #1. I have a cap in mine , with an upgraded alt, the big 3 wire upgrade, etc and I dont see my lights dim anymore when the bass hits.. but everyone has thier own opinions based on their own experiences and knowledge.. so i leave that to you to decide.

    dunno about 2

#2.. YES I AGREE.. my box is ported with a 3.5 inch SQUARE port on the passenger side.. my built it when a "big wig" designer with MTX was in his shop and I can that MTX gives its blessing to this design

    #4.. me to LOL

Now now... I don't tell you how to run your IT service Mikey. Leave the COD and car stereos to me

just pulling your leg.... the third one.

But on a serious note, here's a little heads up on caps.
    Car Audio Power Capacitors

And I quote, "The first way most people know if their system is in trouble is headlights dimming. To most car audio enthusiasts with a passing knowledge of electrical systems this means a capacitor is needed. Headlights dimming? Get a cap. And that's a pretty good guess but not always true and certainly not a guaranteed cure. A power capacitor can only do so much. If your electrical system only has a scrape it's a good band-aid but if it's really bleeding you need stitches. And stitches come in the form of an upgraded alternator and battery. If the headlight dimming only occurs at idle then it probably isn't much to worry about and a power capacitor may help. An idling vehicle puts out much less current from the alternator while the current draw from the audio system remains the same."
