It all depends on if you are going to run a cooled down liquid to air intercooler or if you are going to run air to air.

Air to air won't help as the air cooling the intercooler is the same temp as the air being drawn in from outside the vehicle. Ambient. However, if you are currently drawing air from the engine bay, that's a different story. I recommend just finding a way to install a cold air kit.

Now, if the intercooler is an ice box water to air intercooler or a nitrous halo cooled system, you'll see reduced iat temps and may get a gain. However, I think it would be rather a small gain.

Methanol injection does work for NA cars.

To OP, good question. You are certainly on the right track.

-However, concerning the NA intercooler, IMHO, no way! Huge restriction! The air can only get to ambient.

So, build or buy a good cold air/snorkle type intake. If you want to go the extra mile, insulate the tubing from the filter to the throttle body.

thanks for bringing some interesting discussion to the table. i didn't really figure it would have any positive effect - otherwise somebody with the parts & time would've done it already. i was just curious...

how about runnin your intake piping down to ur front bumper and say like throw the foglight hole? would that help any? pulling air from infront of the truck instead of the engine bay.

i'm plannin on making a scoop based on this idea - sorta like the Volant kit has.
i can't remember who on here did it, but they said it didn't do much around town, but at highway speeds, it helped a little

I have the Volant intake pipe on my C3. My IATs at cruise are very low, but the outside temps have been low lately. Once it warms up, I can log and get some good numbers.

    Thumbs up

69chvelle and I rigged up a "CAI" on his truck and it worked well.

stock box, with a hole cut in the bottom. From the box hole a plastic tube runs to the tow hook hole. Batabing bataboom, plenty of fresh air available to the filter.

Ample ambient temp fresh air to the filter is good.

I have a vararam on my vette. Thats as "ram air" as it gets.
