    4l80e in OBS

Has anyone ever put a '99+ 4l80e in an OBS c1500? After reading this - http://www.ls1truck.com/forums/front...rans-swap.html - it seem like a real PIA. After you buy all those extra parts for the conversion you might as well buy a fully built 4l60e.
What do you do bout the crossmember? Seems like an easier way would be to just drill new holes in the frame for the crossmember. Anyone tried this?

Its easier to swap than in a 99+ truck. If your motor is in the right spot the tranny xmember will bolt right up in existing holes in the frame..Easy.. A stock 4l80E is stronger than a built 60E. Well worth the upgrade if you plan on making power..

I think I've seen a few writeups on that swap over at FSC.

Couldn't find a thread on it but I'm pretty sure Oldred95 and a few others have done this swap as well.

I put a 2002 4L80 into my 98. I just slid the crossmember back. 3 of the 4 holes were already in the right spot. The 80 takes a bigger yoke. The wiring is easy. It only involves 5 wires and a reflash.

So.....simply slide the xmember back, use 6.0 flexplate and spacer, 4l80e dipstick tube, and I'm good to go? My PCM and harness are already getting worked over by Nelson so I'll just have them set up that part.

just do it, definitely worth it. I did it to my 93 and DBRODs did it to his 95? Its a simple install and well worth the effort. Reuse the stock xmember, rewire the trans electrical connector, add the ISS to the PCM and get a tune overlay added to the PCM.

I had to saw part of the ears of the 80e transmission to clear my headers but other than that it was a straight fwd swap with the right parts.
