Anyone have a walbro intank and keep the bucket functional?

So my 255lph pump should be here tomorrow, and I've searched high/low but didn't find what i was looking for. I want to run this pump and keep the functionality of the bucket intact. I've installed dozens of these pumps in F bodies (98 and 99+), but their tank is slanted rear ward so it's not that big a deal. My tank is big and flat so i want the bucket to work like it does, don't wanna hack it up.
I don't want to be worried about getting on it if I'm at 1/4 tank. Also when i go to the track i like to be as low as possible on gas for weight savings. I know id doesn't seem like a lot but, full with 31 gallons thats comes out to about 194 lbs of gas. i like to run with about 5 gallons max, thats a weight savings of about 163 lbs.

Cool, this is on the 99' in your sig? So we have the same return style fuel set up, from the pics that i've seen it looks like the stock pump has two inlets, one with a sock on it and the other looks like it goes attached to the bucket. Was yours like this? The walbro only has one inlet, so how did you set it up?
Haven't pulled mine out yet so i haven't had a chance to fiddle around with it.

Although, there are pics of 00'-02' pumps and 04'+ pumps in this thread. So do 03's have different set ups?

I gutted the bucket on mine and have run it after the low fuel light with no problems. I think the bucket it to keep the stock fuel pump cool and the Walbro dosen't need it.

I really can't remember. I did it by myself so It could not have been that hard. The most difficult part to me was getting the pump and hose to seal good. Lots of pressure in those things. I took the bed off and tested it several times before getting it good and tight. I had to go buy a hose clamp that was made in the USA.

Changed about 15 pumps on these GM's buckets all look the same for the most part just differant height's for differant tanks.
on the stock pump the inlet with the sock is for the motor the other is to cool the pump, the first walbro I did on my old truck I butchered the bucket but it still served its purpose and never starved the the truck of fuel. on my new truck I made a cool spacer for the intake on the pump and it fit just like oem, but not everybody has has a machine shop to use (always make friends with teachers at your local college).
And Zeake is right about the hose too use good high pressure F/I hose and double clamp if you can.
