OK, here is the deal...I found a truck today, specifically a 00 4.8 2wd RCSB, 97K miles, good tires, very clean, hard tono(sp), nice truck. The guy is asking 8K.

I own a 92 RCSB with a 4.3 V6 180k miles that I paid way to much for (4500), the truck is very tight, and insurance is very cheap. I was starting to piece together a 6.0 swap, and priced it out at about 4k when all is said and done (someone tell me if I am way off on my esstimate given 800 for the engine and 300 for the tranny)

So it breaks down to should I sell my V-6 and get the 4.8 or should I swap the 4.3 for a 6.0L and go from there. If you throw out the drive train in the two trucks it comes to things like
    92 Pro's
    PW/PL
    Parental Support
    Tight Steering and Braking
    Condition/VS Age
    Weight (i think)
    92 Con's
Amount of money going into the truck before I will begin to be happy
    Color
    Funny Smell on interior

    00 Pros
No swap to "work out" (going to a 6.0 in that would be easier than in the 92)
    Style (personal pref)
    Color
    Hard Tono(sp)
Less Critical Objectives (stereo, 6.0L, wheels/tires)
    00 Cons
    Upfront Cost
The "I told you so" clause (parents)
4.8L's tend to pop easily (from what I heard)

    Someone please help

There is something great about a truck that's paid for. However, given the choice I'd have to go for the '00. It will run much better than the other in stock form. Plus a 6.0 swap will be an easy procedure.
No more trucks, but this is what I used to have. 2000 GMC Sierra, 6.0L-LQ4, Built 4L60, LS6 Cam, The Other Guys Headers, 3 inch exhaust and 7 chamber flowmaster, 43lb injectors, Nelson Tuning, Drop - 3/4 McGaughys Spindles, Bell Tech Shackles & Hangers. Best time 13.59 @ 106

Yes go for the '00, the swap will be alot easier and you will have a much newer truck, 97k is just getting started!

You didn't pay too much for the 92. They are selling around DFW for 7-8k. I shopped about 20 used car lots and thats the best price around.

Unless you seriously abuse it, why would a 4.8L tend to "pop" (assuming pop equals failure) any more frequently than a larger displacement model? My understanding is that the 4.8L actually handles high rev conditions quite nicely.

Oh yeah, on going with the 00' and a 6.0L swap.

There's nothing wroing with the 4.8 except it is a torqueless wonder. But they love to rev. 97k miles is nothing for these motors. I just turned 100k and it feels better than it did at 90k when I got it. That seems like a great price on the 00 but I may be wrong. I would love to find something like that for a project truck. Just have to keep it hid from the wife, so I'll have to wait till my step dad builds his shop down here.
They have a few guys in town running 13's and 14's with the 4.8, and I don't personally know of anyone "popping"one.

They POP when you run nitrous on them and your fuel solenoid fails.

Thanks for the input everyone...called the guy today to get a test drive after taking a very close look at the truck (god was it clean), and he sold it this morning...so I am still on the hunt, but not as seriously as I was
