    today i pulled the trailer with the stock 5.7 and untuned it is way stronger than my old 5.3!If its money...build the 5.3 if not get a 5.7

    I would swap in the ls1 instead of building the 5.3 if you can afford it. Much greater potential with the 5.7

    i would say stock to stock the ls1 but i will be building the 5.3 so before long only thing that will be 5.3 will be the intake.

    Do the LS1. All parts you have on the 5.3 will bolt to the LS1. Plus the LS1 is aluminum so less weight to try and push down the highway or track. Remember there is no replacement for displacement.

    and mod for mod the ls1 is going to pull away from the 5.3. just for reference...i swapped my stock cammed 5.3 to a stock cammed LS1 and dropped 6/10 in the 1/4.

    i swapped in a small cam and gained another 7/10

    swapped heads and gained another 3/10

    now i have a larger cam and the nitrous goes on tomorrow

    old mod list: H/C/I/N/E/G 408
    new mod list: 5.3, gears/posi, mufler and tune : (
