6.0 OBS Swap in California
Okay, according to California's laws, you can legally swap a newer truck motor into an older truck. New engine must have all OE Smog equipment (? on a ls). You must swap a LIGHT DUTY truck motor into a LIGHT DUTY truck (no mixing HD and LD). Cannot swap a car motor into a truck.
Now, I have an 88 RCSB with a 305 and NEW 700R4 (just installed).
I have been researching alot on LS swap and decided that I want to do a 6.0.
But I need some help choosing the motor.
-According to the Cali laws I posted, what vehicle do I want to hunt down?
-Should I make the extra effort to find only DBC, or is the DBW conversion worth it if I find a good deal on a DBW engine?
-Let's say I go with a pre-made wiring harness, what eventually becomes of the 88 computer and wiring, are they needed to control anything else? (I am going with custom gauge panel)
Other than that I learned I will need the motor mount adapters, flexplate adapter to run 700R4, harness, computer, different fuel pump, exhaust,... Cant think of the rest at the moment.
Thanks for any help. It is getting extremely confusing learning this swap. It seems like I am making ti harder on myself and seem harder than people say.
