This is a common question on the board so here is a link to Hit Man X's post over on GMFullsize

    http://www.gmfullsize.com/forum/showpost.p...mp;postcount=40

As mentioned in the post, pay particular attention to clearances and backlash.

The Electronic Pressure Control to vacuum modulator control device is Transgo kit 46MOD available from Oregon Performance Transmission or TransmissionCenter.net.

The most common shift kit is the Transgo 4L60E-HD2 model though they do sell a simple shift correction kit.

The Raybestos Blue Plate Special 3-4 clutch pack comes with instructions to drill a #58 hole to vent residual oil out of the input drum housing, from behind the piston that actuates the 3-4 clutch pack.

The last update on that was May 30, 2001. I wonder if that is still how they do it.

    Cool

I'm tryin to see how feasible it will be to modify an input drum to accept TH400 direct clutches.

From my Alto book, it shows that the 80E clutch is 0.151" larger in OD than the 60E one. ~5/32" only. From the pictures I've seen of built input drums it looks like there is enough room to machine out the drum slightly for this larger clutch.

    5.893 - clutch; 4.575 - steel. 80E
    5.742 - clutch; 4.995 - steel. 60E

Check the internet, I saw somewhere a company was building larger diameter 3-4 input drums. It may have been simply machining them larger but I read about it on the internet somewhere.

Hrm, I'll look around. Let me know if you come up with anythin... I'm going to see how far I can take a 60E

www.api-racing.com apparently they can do it. I'll email today. They do, $600 to hold eight TH400 clutches.
