    S10 SWAP -Got my 2001 5.3 & 4L60E home but want NV3500. Are these parts what I need ?

    Hello. New member here.

I finally brought home my 5.3 & 4L60E in my minivan since my truck's 4-banger is knocking. The 2nd 4L60 is for my buddy. The motor is a 2001 Silverado 5.3 with 52,000 miles and a 2002 Tahoe 4L60E with 55,000 miles for $800 ($650+$150). The motor is complete pull out with all accessories, wire harness and the computer. I did take the valve cover off to make sure there was no sludge before buying the motor. I was even able to turn the ignition on and crank the motor and verify the miles (digital). I could not start the motor since it has no gas thank. Originally I was thinking about going the carb route with 700R4 but with fuel injection setup will make a nice daily driver.

    Since my S10 is already a 5-Speed, I am thinking about keeping it 5-speed. I can get a NV3500 out of a 2003 S10/4.3V6 for $150.

Will the NV3500 out of 4.3/S10 going to be ok with a stock 5.3?

From various websites, this is what I found:

    Flywheel: Sachs #NFW1050
    Pilot Bearing: SKF #6302VSP43
    Release Bearing: Autozone #1377C
    Clutch Stock
    Pressure Plate Stock

First off, welcome to the site. Enjoy all it has to offer.

As for your engine, itl looks clean to me. Hopefully, there are no internal issues.

I can't answer your question as I have no experience with the manual trannies. Hopefully someone will chime in and lend a helping hand.

I learned the hardway. Bought a 5.0 for my Falcon project with 60,000 miles. Its hard to remove valve covers on the Ford 5.0 without removing the intake. Got it home and it turned out that the motor came with the original oil from the factory - in black crusty form !!! Guess some people have no idea what oil change means.

Depends on how you drive it,some people say the 3500 will grenade at the sight of a 5.3,others have run them with no issues.Your parts list should work, not sure on the throwout bearing though that will depend on what style hydraulic clutch your truck/transmission has.

My NV3500 is still holding fine. I don't baby it. It's had 500+ ft lbs through it quite a few times. I have NEVER heard of a 3500 straight out grenading. It'll always get you home, however they do get tired.

Great threads. Lots of info here. I wish I had come across them when I did my swap. They would have answered alot of questions I had to figure out on my own.

    Frenchy,

Glad to see that the NV3500 holds up just fine with the 5.3. These are not as easy to find as the 4 cylinder T5's for the S10. I picked up two NV3500 for $400. One is out of a 1998 S10 with 140,000 miles and the other is out of a 2003 with 102,000. They also had one out of a Full size with 4.3 but looks like the shifter is in different location compared to the S10.
