    Cool Junkyard LS1

Want to get an LS1 out of the junkyard, and install it into a 94-98 GMC shortbed truck. Got some questions.
1.What kind of mpg will I get with the install?
2.What should I expect to pay for an engine machine shop to rebuild the engine, for it is buyer beware (from the junkyard)?
3.Would it be better to buy an LS1 transmission or keep the original one, for I'm thinking about the wire harness connections at the transmission.?
If anyone could help me out, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Thank you PitchblackC3 for the useful information. It will help me a lot. One question, do you know how much it would cost to rebuild an ls1? ($1000,$1500,$2000? or more?)

It depends on the quality of the work. I was quoted 2400 for an iron LS1 to be built. Short block.

Most guys (including myself) find wrecked 2500's and pull the 6.0's out, put in a different cam and drive it like that.
