    317 heads on a 5.3

Got a buddy that offered me a set of 317's on the cheap, would they be worth buying for my 5.3. As of right now my truck is stock except exhaust and cold air intake but I have been looking at different cams for it.

My truck is a 00 GMC Sierra and its 4x4.

I've read other people asking this question before and I'm going to try and answer to the best of my ability from my memory. If you are going to be running a F.I. they will be good for you due to the low compression they will leave you with, but just for a stock application no they will not be a good addition to your setup.

i dont reccomend you putting 317's on 5.3 espeacilly if your close to stock. you will lose compression espeacilly torque, since ur truck is 4X4 torque is what you need.

yout stock head's are at 62CC and 317s are 72CC.

my best bet would be a cam 212/218 - 56X,58X lift on a 114 lsa. great DD cam works well with stock stall, starts pulling at low rpm and great torque cam.

Thanks for the heads up guys.

Would the Thunder Racing Cheatr cam be a good cam to run, specs: 214/230 .601/.575 117 LSA or stick to something more like what you recommended? I found a cam close to what you told with lower lift though on Texas Speed.
