Has anyone ever heard of putting a muffler between the headers and the turbo? I'm canning my cats but not excited about the noise. How much "flow" would I lose by placing a muffler before the turbo. Also, is there a risk of blowing "pieces" from the muffler into my turbo.

    Any thoughts are appreciated.

Put the muffler after the turbo to kill the turbo noise and be more stealthy. You sure don't want muffler packing or pieces to enter the turbo.

that makes sense. Who makes the best muffler for performance?

That's all subjective. You have to find a sound you like. As you've probably read in past posts, everyone has a different idea for how they think their truck should sound.

Brandon, try it with no muffler first and see. We have done several with headers and turbo only and its not that bad.
If its too loud, then you can always put one on.

Red and TRT are right on the money. I would wait and see before i did anything. Like TRT said you can always add one later.

Well I like the sound of mine (w/Cats) and no muffler, but except when I tow a trailer it gets very loud. I am going to try a SpinTech Muffler after the turbo to quiet it down a little.

I'd also wait before adding any muffler if you're keeping the cats in place.

I had a Spintech on my N/A Stg3 head/cam ARE '00 SS Camaro with Grotyohanns, 4" midpipe, no cats (dynod near 500hp). Car had an unbelievable sound, not too loud. The Spintech (hipo sportsman line) will give you a raw, growly sound. They have no packing whatsoever so noise came up through hatch floor like crazy!

I've since had a couple 4-cyl turbo cars and am pleased with the way the good SS str-thru Magnaflows kill harsness and tend to produce deep, smooth tones. The ceramic packing won't blow out or change in sound. Resonators are not necessary with the Mag muffs but I'm running a much thinner (less packing) 3" str-thru so I had to install a pair of resonators on the modded TT. Again, it's a hatch and definitely didn't want noise up through hatch.

I've got a 3" in, 2-2.5"ers out (5x8x18) Magnaflow on my tuned-only truck now but it produces too much sound into cabin, even being in stock location. I detest noise intrusion into cabin. Will probably have my custom exhaust guy swap out for the longer 21'er and only single in/out.

While I was having a custom exhaust done for the TT, a guy with a Trans-Am STS turbo came in. That car was not loud at all, but sound out pipe was of terrible quality so they reworked the system AFTER the turbo.

I hope the above gives some feedback on sound for whichever way you decide to go.
