Thanks for all the comments, it does feel good to have it running again. A few small (hopefully) issues to work out. Now that the truck is so quiet with the exhaust hooked up, I've detected a regular miss in one of the cylinders. Don't know which one yet or why, going to the garage after I type this to start trouble shooting. It doesn't get picked up by the PCM and throws no codes, but it's definitely there...........
Another isssue and it's probably of my doing is when I shift in or out of P or N all my gauges dip briefly to 0, the voltage goes from 14 to 12 and the lights dim if I have them on... I suspect I crossed some wires when connecting the P/N switch on the trans.....
Last issue is that my starter now stays engaged too long after the engine starts, this symptom is new, unless I couldn't hear it before with the open exhaust. Sounds like a stuck bendix... it releases about 3 seconds after engine start.

After I figure this stuff out, I'll install sound deadener and carpet, reinstall the interior and start driving this thing regularly....

That sounds like a short related to the reverse light.

Worked on the truck a little bit yesterday, drove it for a lot longer.

The miss turned out to be a sticky fuel injector, cleared up just fine and now it runs as smooth as the wifey's Tahoe..

Rewired my "hot start" solenoid to cure the starter running on problem... seems that the new type starters don't like the old hot start fix.

Haven't worked the P/N switch problem yet, I just bypassed it for the present. Hopefully I'll fix it before I start it in drive or reverse and drive the truck off the lift.....

The exhaust is probably too quiet now, I had an H pipe added to the system when I had the pipes done and this thing is almost whisper quiet.... quite a change from the carb, cam and headered Gen I small block that last occupied the engine bay...

I'm just about ready to stick a fork in this thing and call it done..... as far as the engine swap anyway... I still have a ton of work till I'm ready for Friday cruise night....

Not strictly swap related, but since I moved my gas tank at the same time I did my 5.3 conversion I figured I'd update this thread with recent progress. I finally got around to putting in a gas filler door instead of just having a hose come up through the bed.... I got the gas door from a junkyard Suburban, cut it out with a sawsall.. That was a lot of fun..... A buddy of mine has a welder and we combined our efforts on this.... I think it turned out pretty well. Lots of body work left on the truck before it is ready for paint..... I've always considered myself more of a mechanic than a bodyman so this is going to take a while..... I really hate body work.....
