ok well i just went ahead and ordered a bunch of stuff for the swap about 5 min ago. figured id update you all with the parts, part numbers and prices for anyone that might also be doing a cali legal swap with this motor. as like most everyone here im trying to do this on a tight budget, but within my limited time frame and i think im doing pretty well so far being that i cant sit around and wait for those awesome deals to show up. i have been searching everywhere for the basic required parts trying not to bug you with previously asked questions and also for the smog stuff that most of you just dont need. and i think i did it....

    TOTAL FROM EBAY: $785.84

    TOTAL SO FAR - $2,628.84

I personally think thats not to shabby considering i came into this figuring around 5k easy when i orginally planned doing an LS1/4l80. but the LQ9 has more power for less cost than an ls1. mind you the price doesnt include the future 80e but even with that i should still be well under the 5k mark. yes i know i still need a few other things that will add up including a $100+ charcoal canister. but for doing this legally, i knew it would be more expensive.

so far what do you guys think? am i at/below/above average for my situation? i realize i probably could have gotten a lot of these parts for less if i had the time to wait. but id like to get some opinions from you seasoned LSX swappers out there!!

ok everyboody. i promised id update today. i wish i could give more info but today didnt go as smooth as planned... i woke up a lil later than i wanted and i had a few errands to run before i put the truck out of commision that took longer than i thought. but i did get it in the back and started ripping stuff out of it. my goal was to get the motor out today but i just couldnt reach it. i was soooo close. im doing it tomorrow for sure but i ran into some crap that i didnt expect.

the damn tranny-engine bolts are SUPER tight to the floor pan!!! since im not replacing the tranny yet, i figured leaving it in place was ok. but how do you all do this the easy way? do i have to get a friggin wrench and sit there for hours trying to get the bolts off or do you pull the tranny at the same time? i was trying to not have to pull the TWO drive shafts apart and slide the tranny back cuz i didnt want to deal with the mess of the tranny fuluid leaking out the back. is this the only way of doing it?

ive got everything else disconected. all i have to do is get the bellhousing bolts off and engine mounts and i can pull it. the major problem i have is i have to do this all by myself. i have the next few days off but none of my buddys do so that makes it twice as difficult. anybody have any suggestions? ill get it tommorow either way cuz im determined as hell but i would like to make this as easy as possible!! lol sooooooo... any help!!!???

    before i stated

    almost ready to pull...

this is what was on the drain plug..... i think there might be some issues in there after having 220k on the motor.... lmfao!!!

but you know what, when i was trying to turn it by hand to rotate it in order to get the TC bolts off, it had a sh** load of resistance!! so i think the compression is still pretty good for having that much mileage on it!! i didnt check it with my tester but damn, i think that shows how good these motors are if you take care of them!!!

oh btw, i stopped by the local dump yard and weighed the truck as it was stock to see what the diff was after i did all the planned mods. the way it sat as a 95 ext cab short bed on 20" foose steel rims with a system, it was 4500 lbs. in case anyone else has a similar setup and wanted to know.

i cant wait to see what it is with the lq9, 4l80e and rear mount turbo setup when im done.

Looking good so far. Just for info: I would remove the entire A/C compressor with bracket. Lay the compressor aside WITHOUT UNDOING THE LINES. There's enough room to wire it to the passenger fender to keep it out of the way for the swap.

As for the bracket, look at this link. It works as I did it on my 6.0.

thanks mikey but for one, i had no refrigerant in my lines due to a leak and second, my pump didnt even work anyway so i already disconnected the lines. ill prolly pull it off today but im planning on just using the compressor that came with the motor. ive seen that article before but that wont really apply to the ls style ac pump. so ill have to figure something up on my own. alrighty, im off to pull this thing out.

I remember reading somewhere that the frame requires notching to clear the low mounted LS style A/C compressor. Might want to check that out.
