The noise does not mean that it is going out. Yes its a good idea to get something better, but the noise you are hearing is normal. The G80 rear end is not given much credit for being able to hold up to abuse, so take it easy with your lead foot and it will last longer.

After grenading my G80 I installed an Auburn posi-unit and it's been great to me. Whines a bit but over all works good.

whining would be the gear setup not the Auburn unless you have bad bearings.![]()

I did have the gears changed too, that could be the issue. This was several years ago that I had all that changed out. I wonder how long that will last? It only whines when I let off the gas.
