Mine use fuseable links, not sure what size. They were part of the 1997 f-body fuse/relay junction I used.

EDIT: Sorry mine is the f-body fans not truck fans
[/b]
the f-body fans are wired the same except they use one big ass fuse link insted of fuses, only until 1997, then they found out the fuse link poped when the fan slowed down and people couldnt find the fuse link to repair the it. or repaired it incorrectly. so they started using one 40 amp fuse in 1998 for both fans. the car fans draw less than the trucks. i see f-cars in all the time w/fuse links repaired w/regular wire or too big of fuse link. i guess the replacable fuse takes the stupid factor out of it. i never liked the fuse link.

I'll change it sometime when I redo my harness. I would like a bank of those large fuses to replace the links.

Ok , the diagram brings up a few questions , do the fans need to run at cold start and A/C on ? , are all PCMs capable of the mointoring the A/C pressure and if so does it have to be enabled ? , do all 05s or older LS1s have the fuse and relay bay already under the fuse box ? , are the connectors stated in the lamp harness also there on other years and different 05 LS1 trucks ?

Just thought I would ask , someone else might need to know .
Now what is a tune again?

No , Red , I think what I did was fine , just if my 05 has all the stuff to do just like stock , thought I mght do it some time , and the questions are valid ones .
COWL327 is going to do his and just thought I would clear up some issues .
I can't belive you missed the fuse thing I put mine before the relays , like the stock diagram not inline to the fans , relays burn up to easy and no fuse , nothing to protect the power wire , burn up , ouch .

My fuses are right next to the battery. They are the first line of defense. I just put in too small of a fuse in there, 30 amp on each fan power line.

fuses are in a wiring system to protect the wiring, and only the wiring, if something was to burn up or melt in a wiring circut than it wasn't big enough to hold the current. red is right on the fuse placement, all fuses need to be as close to the battery as possible due to the fact that unfused wiring needs to be as short as it can be, and extra protected. all relays should be at least 10 amps higher than the fuse rating to give you a buffer zone. a properly sized relay should last the life of the car, if not, install a bigger one. also if in question on how big a wire should be just get the bigger one. small wire is for sensors not fans.

fans should always be on when a/c is running regardless of outside temp, or how long the engine has been on. run them on high!!!. you cant be to safe. if no air is flowing through the condensor than the freon wont condense causing the system to malfunction. the only gm systems that use the pressure monitoring are systems that have a three wire sensor on the a/c piping someplace. the trucks started this in 2003, most but not all have a high pressure cut out switch that does the same thing. some trucks dont have the high side switch, dont assume yours has one . not all pcm are set up like this, only the ones that came like that. can they be turned on??? my guess is yes, but who can?? and who would want to?? a/c is a/c right? as long as it gets cold. not all fuse panels have room in them for this, and if they did the connectors might not be in the panel. the connectors may or may not be in the harness, i have seen both..i hope that clears it up some . it is a case by case thing. if your car has it, great. if not, can you install it, great. as long as the end product is a quality repair. remember one thing,,, would you pay somebody $100.00 per hour to do the job that you just did??? if not than rethink how it was installed.. good work isnt cheep and we all can do it good and safe. please no burned up wiring, that shouldn't happen.

Fuses are gone and in their place are two 40 amp thermal breakers. No more worries. Thanks for the info HT!

seems like there are 2 different issues here...one w/ factory installed fans (w/ factory harness) and gm fans retrofitted into a truck w/ regular clutch fan w/ an aftermarket harness (like one from Nelson). I have the latter and keep loosing relays too.
Can anyone w/ a factory setup take a picture of the factory fuse box to show relay and fuse placement.
Also, can anyone speculate on wheather in an older (mine is an '03) pcm os will control the fans based on A/C pressure? Meaning, the nelson harness has a pin to be placed in the #42 location (like in the diagram) and I have it activated w/ HP Tuners. And i can build a new harness similiar to the wiring diagram and add a pin #33 (like in the diagram). But, am unsure if the sequence w/ be like the one listed above w/ respect to fan on and the A/C.
Thanks!
