    I would like to use the Ls1 compressor since that would cut out the expense of a new comp. Both comp.(LS1 & '98 4.3) look very similar both long & thinner than the one pictured above.

    I think it would probably be easier & I know it would be cheaper to just notch the frame & box it in. I just wonder how hard it would be to do it with the motor in the truck? What are you guys thoughts?

    That would definitely be the cleanest looking install and if you have most of the parts and pieces it might be well worth the effort. Maybe a weld shop could knock it out for you in a day if you left them the truck and parts. A plasma torch and supply of steel and welding equipment, not to mention that it's their daily job will make it go faster than if you try to do it part-time.
